Alamo / National rent a car rules and regulations for Australia

Following is an alphabetical list of the general guidelines and procedures Alamo / National uses, in most cases this index can answer Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs).

ADDITIONAL DRIVER

  • a) Additional driver must show valid drivers license.
  • b) Additional drivers on cash rentals must have credit card
  • c) An additional driver fee applies per day of rental

ADVANCE BOOKING REQUIREMENT

  • 48-hour advance reservation is required to guarantee rates.

AGE REQUIREMENT
  • a) An underage fee applies per day of rental for drivers between 21 - 24.
  • b) Minimum rental age is 21.
  • c) Must show valid drivers license.
  • d) Certain specialty vehicles may not be rented to underage drivers.

CAR CATEGORY/CAR TYPES

Classification of cars in the fleet based on size and number of doors. All cars are priced, booked and controlled by car category, not by car make or model.

  • Economy -Toyota Echo 1.3 or similar with A/C (Manual)
  • Compact - Toyota Corolla 1.6 or similar with A/C (Automatic)
  • Intermediate - Toyota Camry 2.4 or similar with A/C (Automatic)
  • Intermediate - Toyota Commuter 2.4 or similar with A/C (Automatic)
  • Fullsize - Toyota Landcruiser 3.0 or similar with A/C (Manual)
  • Fullsize - Holden Commodore 3.8 or similar with A/C (Automatic)
  • Luxury - Holden Statesman 5.0 or similar with A/C (Automatic)
  • Premium - Holden Calais 3.8 or similar with A/C (Automatic)
  • Premium - Toyota Tarago 2.4 or similar with A/C (Automatic)
  • Special - Audi TT with A/C (Manual)

CASH DEPOSIT

  • Qualifying renters who do not have a credit card must leave a cash deposit at the time of rental with three proofs of ID.
  • No cash rentals for 21-24 years old.


CREDIT CARDS

  • a) Renter's name must match name on credit card.
  • b) Signature on back of credit card must match name on card.
  • c) All charges are billed to credit card at termination of rental.
  • d) Credit Cards: American Express, Diner's Club International, MasterCard, Visa.


DEPOSITS
  • Qualifying renters who do not have a credit card and have a prepaid rental must leave a cash deposit at time of rental and have three proofs of ID.

DRIVER'S LICENSE
  • All drivers must produce a current driver's license, valid in their country of domicile which has been valid for the last 12 months. An international drivers license is only accepted together with a valid drivers license of the country of domicile.


 DRIVER'S LICENSE ELIGIBILITY
  • Rental may be subject to a verification of renter's driving record, including, but limited to, verification to determine whether the license is suspended, revoked or expired. All renters/drivers are subject to having their driving records checked. If renter/driver do not meet the applicable rental requirements, including the guidelines for driving licenses and driving records, they may be denied a rental. Alamo / National is not responsible for the failure of any renter/driver to qualify for rental under these requirement guidelines.

EXTRA DAYS

  • Refers to daily charges in excess of a weekly rental.

FUEL POLICIES/CHARGES
  • If vehicle is rented with full tank of gas, the vehicle must be returned with a full tank of gas or charges will apply.

 
LATE CHARGES
  • Alamo / National calculates rates based on a 24-hour period. There is a 59 minute grace period, thereafter a further full day's rental will be charged.

MAXIMUM RENTAL AGE
  • In Australia the maximum rental age is 75 years. However, Alamo / National does reserve the right to refuse rental if client proves unable to handle road rules and conditions.

MAXIMUM RENTAL PERIOD
  • The maximum rental period in Australia is 30 DAYS


MECHANICAL ACCIDENTS AND PROBLEMS
  • Clients must complete a report form at time of incident. These are provided at start of rental. Dependent on the circumstances of the accident, we reserve the right not to supply a replacement vehicle right away.

 
MINIMUM RENTAL PERIOD
  • A minimum of 72 hours is required for all rentals.

NO-SHOW
  • In case of a "no show" of a customer, the reservation will be canceled.

NON-REPAIRABLE BREAKDOWN
  • In the event of a non-repairable breakdown a replacement car will be provided (providing the breakdown is not caused by drivers misuse).

ONE-WAY RENTALS
  • Vehicles may not be driven into or out of the Northern Territory or Western Australia unless approved.

PRIMARY RENTER
  • Driver listed first on the Rental Agreement. This person will pay for and be responsible for the Alamo / National vehicle.

REFUNDS

  • a) If a renter plans to pay in cash, Alamo / National credits the renter's credit card at the time the car is returned.
  • b) If a renter has paid a cash deposit rather than using a credit card, the balance remaining (after charges are deducted from the deposit) is refunded at the end of the rental period.

RENTAL AGREEMENT

  • "Contract" between Alamo / National and the renter. Requires the renter's signature and lists total charges and conditions of rental term.

RENTAL EXTENSIONS

  • When a customer wishes to extend the rental, the additional charges will be paid directly to the renting location at the current local rate (the original rate of rental term is not guaranteed for the extended portion of the rental.)

RESPONSIBLE FOR RENTAL

  • Alamo / National holds the renter responsible for the safe return of the rental car in the same condition as it was rented, except for normal wear and tear. Unless prohibited, a renter may be held responsible for all damages, including loss of use, should the car be damaged in an accident, stolen or vandalized. This is the case regardless of fault. Whether or not you caused the accident, you may be asked to pay for the damage up to and including the total cost of replacing the car in case of a total wreck or loss. Be sure any estimated damage to the car has been recorded properly before you leave the rental facility.

RETURNING YOUR CAR

  • The car is expected to be returned in the same condition as rented to the customer. Normal wear and tear is expected. If special cleaning is required for whatever reason, a separate charge will be made directly to the customer to cover the cost of any cleaning and/or repair worked required.

SPECIAL EQUIPMENT

  • Baby seats, roof racks, and ski racks are generally available. Please notify us when you make your reservation.
